We specialize in buying gold, silver, platinum, diamond, and Native American jewelry. Our jewelry buyers are constantly on the lookout for men’s, women’s, antique, religious, and any other type of jewelry they can find. We make it easy to turn unwanted or unused jewelry into cash.
There are many factors to consider when valuating jewelry, but primarily buyers will consider the intrinsic value and resale value to provide a cash estimate.
Intrinsic value – The “intrinsic” value is the metal value plus the gem value of a piece of jewelry. Precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, etc.) and gems (diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, etc.) are priced differently, so it is important to find a buyer that knows how to calculate precious metal prices as well as gem prices. At Precious Elements, not only are we experts in precious metal valuations but we also know how to grade, assess, and appraise precious gems.
Resale value – Some jewelry, though not all, may have a resale value that is higher than its intrinsic value. In this case, the resale value is determined by the intrinsic value plus additional factors such as workmanship, design, artist, etc. Because there are many other factors that can influence the resale value, it is important to work with a buyer that knows what to look for so you can be sure that you are getting top-dollar for your item(s).
The experts at Precious Elements consider many different factors to provide a fair market dollar value for your piece so you can be sure that getting the most cash for your new or used jewelry.
Beyond the intrinsic value of your jewelry (the precious metal spot price plus the gem price), the next most important consideration for our jewelry buyers is whether the item is from a luxury or designer brand. Some of the luxury and designer brands that fetch premium prices include:
Tiffany & Co. – Every piece of Tiffany jewelry is stamped with the “Tiffany & Co.” mark, and some may contain a trademark date as well. Among Tiffany toggle bracelets and necklaces, authentic pieces have soldered links, whereas a knockoff’s chain links are usually pinched together.
Cartier – Although exact stamping for authentic Cartier jewelry can vary, the logo is always printed in their signature script and modern jewelry will be stamped with the metal type and a unique serial number. Cartier bracelets and rings will also be stamped with their respective size.
Van Cleef & Arpels – Authentic Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry is always stamped as either “Van Cleef & Arpels” or “VCA” (fakes are commonly only stamped with “Van Cleef”) as well as a unique serial number and the jewelry’s metal type.
David Yurman – Authentic David Yurman jewelry features two embossed stamps: metal content and trademark. Some older pieces of Yurman jewelry may contain peculiar stampings called “craftsman” or “factory” stamps.
Bulgari – Genuine Bulgari jewelry is stamped with an authentic Bulgari hallmark, the brand’s name, the jewelry’s metal type and the words “Made in Italy.” Another important hallmark of authentic Bulgari jewelry is that the “U” is replaced with a “V” and is written as “BVLGARI.”
Roberto Coin – The Roberto Coin registered maker’s mark is “1226VI” and is always stamped into genuine Roberto Coin jewelry. Another unique feature of Roberto Coin jewelry is a small ruby set on the inside or underside of the piece (this signature “hidden ruby” was introduced in 1996).
The above list is just a small sampling of the luxury and designer jewelry brands we buy. If you want to learn how much your luxury jewelry is worth, contact the experts at Precious Elements for an honest, transparent, and risk-free cash estimate.
Old jewelry can be just as valuable as new jewelry, or in some cases even more valuable depending on when a piece was made or who made it. In the jewelry trade, the terms “vintage” and “antique” or often used interchangeably to describe old jewelry. However, there are subtle differences that will help you determine whether the piece you are selling is in fact vintage or antique.
A piece of jewelry is considered “vintage” if it is between 50 and 100 years old, and “antique” if it is more than 100 years old. Antique jewelry is also often more precious, delicate, and rare (and therefore usually more valuable) than vintage jewelry, but there are exceptions. If you are unsure of how old your jewelry is, contact the expert buyers at Precious Elements for a free valuation.
